Co-production in mental health commissioning
The Royal College of Psychiatrists has produced guidance on co-production in mental health commissioning entitled ‘Working Well Together’. Co-production is based on the premise that the people who use services and those who work in them are the best people to suggest better ways of working, and there is evidence to support this. Such services are more likely to be cost effective, responsive and have high satisfaction and health outcome rates.
Service providers should therefore be prepared to engage with commissioners to achieve the benefits of co-production and a four-phase model of this commissioning cycle is recommended, together with tools and evidence supporting this process.
