NG19 Diabetic foot problems: prevention and management

This NICE guideline was updated in October 2019 and covers preventing and managing foot problems in patients with diabetes. It aims to reduce variation in practice, including antibiotic prescribing for diabetic foot infections.

It makes seven recommendations on:

  • Care within 24 hours upon hospital admission, or upon detection in hospital
  • Care across all settings
  • Assessing the risk of developing diabetic foot problems
  • Diabetic foot problems
  • Diabetic foot ulcer
  • Diabetic foot infections
  • Charcot arthropathy
