Nurse prescribers and CDs

In Improving Compliance, Regulations and Standards

Following changes to the Misuse of Drugs Act Regulations, nurses who have a non-medical prescriber’s qualification can prescribe controlled drugs from 23rd April 2012.

Hospitals should revise policies and procedures concerning controlled drugs, depending on whether they will permit this practice. If nurses will be writing prescriptions for outpatients, then they will require to be registered with the local PCT to obtain CD Private Prescription Forms (FP10PCD).

Ashtons will only accept prescriptions for controlled drugs from Nurse Prescribers after they register their details with our dispensary pharmacist so that the necessary checks can be carried out, priorto ordering.
