NICE Clinical Guideline – Psychosis and Schizophrenia in children and young people (CG 155)

 In Clinical Guidelines, NICE guidelines

This guideline is concerned with the recognition and management of psychosis and schizophrenia in children and young people up to age 18.

Prognosis is worse when onset of psychosis or schizophrenia occurs in the age group, and one third of those affected will have severe impairment requiring intensive support.

Recommended treatment includes the use of antipsychotics, such as riseridone or aripiprazole, and psychological interventions, and these interventions should be monitored and reviewed. Many antipsychotics are not licensed for use in children and adults under 18, so GMC guidelines for off-label prescribing should be followed.
