The CQC Safer Management of Controlled Drugs Report
Each year, the CQC produces a report on the use of controlled drugs. The latest annual report, for 2013, included several recommendations which included widening the membership of the controlled drug local intelligence networks (LINs), and also sharing best practice nationally.
The report provides data on prescribing trends. Private prescribing represents 0.1% of overall controlled drug prescribing, and this is a decreasing trend. Methadone, dexampfetamine and methylphenidate were the most commonly prescribed drugs.
