PHE: Report on e-cigarettes
Experts have recently estimated that e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful to health than smoking.
In England, it is reported that roughly 5% of the population is currently using e-cigarettess, with most of this group being smokers or ex-smokers. The report shows that smoking rates in both youth and adults have been on a continual decline, and there is no evidence in England that e-cigarettes are re-normalising smoking or increasing smoking uptake.
Instead, the evidence reviewed in this report points in the direction of an association between greater uptake of e-cigarettes and reduced smoking, with emerging evidence that e-cigarettes can be effective cessation and reduction aids.
