Smoking cessation products
Smoking is the main cause of preventable illness and premature death. It is the primary reason for the gap in healthy life expectancy between rich and poor, and rates of smoking by people with mental health problems (42%) are significantly higher than the general population (16.9%). People with mental health problems have a reduced life expectancy of 10-20 years, and smoking is likely to contribute to this inequality.
A wide range of diseases and conditions are caused by smoking, including cancers, respiratory diseases, coronary heart and other circulatory diseases, stomach and duodenal ulcers, erectile dysfunction, infertility, osteoporosis, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration and periodontitis.
Smoking can cause complications in pregnancy and labour, including ectopic pregnancy, bleeding during pregnancy, and premature detachment and rupture of the membranes. The health risks for babies of mothers who smoke are substantial.
Helping hospitals go smoke-free
There is a long way to go until the whole population is smoke-free. The UK smoking ban (2007) has helped a lot with this by preventing smoking in enclosed spaces, such as pub, clubs and public buildings. However, it is still possible to smoke in the grounds of some hospitals, although this is starting to change. An increasing number of healthcare organisations are now adopting smoke-free policies throughout their grounds, trying to help their patients give up the habit.
Smoking cessation products we offer
To help healthcare organisations and their patients prepare to embrace smoke-free policies, we have produced a Guide to Smoking Cessation and offer a comprehensive range of high-quality smoking cessation products. These smoking cessation products include patches, gum, nasal spray, oral sprays, inhalators and lozenges to help your patients stop smoking.
Nicorette Invisible Patch 10mg
Nicorette® Invisible Patch 10mg aims to help you overcome your urge to smoke. The patches are used to relieve or prevent withdrawal symptoms and reduce the cravings. This provides a safer alternative to smoking for both the individual and those around them.
Nicorette® Inhalator, a clinically proven nicotine replacement aid that provides the hand-to-mouth action of a real cigarette. By replacing the nicotine you would normally get from cigarettes, Nicorette® Inhalator enables you to reduce or quit in a way that mimics the act of smoking. So if you think you’ll miss the physical habit of the hand-to-mouth action of a cigarette then the Inhalator could be a great match for you.
Nicotine replacement products
The more patients who give up smoking, the fewer health problems they will have. In the long run, this will benefit both the patients and the healthcare system.
At the start of a new year, there is always a spike in people trying to give up smoking and it is important to have support available to best help them accomplish it. Sometimes willpower alone is not enough. This is where our range of smoking cessation products can help.
We have a vast range of products available, including nicotine replacement patches, gum, nasal spray, oral sprays, inhalators and lozenges, to help your patients stop smoking.
E-cigarettes may also be beneficial, but they are still unregulated in the UK so it is recommended that licensed nicotine replacement products are used in hospitals.
