Alcohol-use disorders: diagnosis and management of physical complications (CG100)

This NICE guideline was updated in April 2017 which has replaced the previous guideline. CG100 covers “Care for adults and young people (aged 10 years and older) with physical health problems that are completely or partly caused by an alcohol-use disorder”. The main aim of the guideline is to improve the health of these people by providing recommendations on managing acute alcohol withdrawal and treating alcohol-related conditions.

In this update, NICE have reviewed the evidence for corticosteroid treatment for people with severe alcohol-related hepatitis and changed recommendation This NICE guideline makes four
recommendations on:

  • Acute alcohol withdrawal
  • Wernicke’s encephalopathy
  • Alcohol-related liver disease
  • Alcohol-related pancreatitis
