NG127-Suspected neurological conditions: recognition and referral

This NICE guideline was published in May 2019 and covers the initial assessment of symptoms and signs that might indicate a neurological condition. It makes recommendations for people over the ages of 16, as well as children and young people, and has been written for:

  • non-specialist healthcare professionals in primary and secondary care
  • healthcare professionals in neurology departments
  • people with suspected neurological conditions, their families and carers.

NG125 – Surgical site infections: prevention and treatment

This NICE guideline was published in April 2019 and covers preventing and treating surgical site infections in adults, young people and children who are having a surgical procedure involving a cut through the skin.

It makes recommendations on:

  • nasal decolonisation before surgery
  • antiseptic skin preparation during surgery
  • antiseptics and antibiotics before wound closure
  • methods of wound closure.

NG134 – Depression in children and young people: identification and management

This NICE guideline was published in June 2019 and covers identifying and managing depression in children and young people aged 5 to 18 years. It aims to improve recognition and assessment and promote effective treatments for mild, moderate and severe depression.

It makes recommendations on:

  • psychological therapies for mild depression
  • psychological therapies for moderate to severe depression.

It’s been created for healthcare professionals, commissioners and providers, and children and young people with depression and their families and carers.
