New training seminars

At Ashtons we recognise the importance of sharing knowledge among our peers and are always striving to expand our diverse portfolio of training seminars.

We are delighted to announce that we have recently added two new topics to our suite of training seminars.

Diabetes mellitus and mental health

The updated ‘Diabetes mellitus and mental health’ looks at diagnosis, testing and monitoring of this condition. It examines the treatment options of insulin, oral medications and the newer injectable medications. This seminar has an emphasis on the links and incidence of diabetes in patients with mental health issues and looks at the extra measures that are necessary in their care. It also covers aspects of misuse of insulin in eating disorders.

Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD)

Our new ‘Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder (COPD)’ seminar is a comparison of these two different respiratory disorders. It covers the signs and symptoms of both conditions and the methods of diagnosis. It looks at self-management of both acute exacerbations and long-term treatment using inhaled and oral therapies. The seminar addresses the importance of compliance, adherence and also correct inhaler technique in managing the symptoms of both conditions.

Ashtons has also recently produced clinical toolkits for asthma and COPD that are designed to support prescribing and understanding of these conditions. The toolkits are concise, quick-reference documents that outline the decision pathways in treatment in line with NICE guidelines.

The seminar and toolkits can be used as stand-alone learning opportunities but also complement one another to enhance or refresh your knowledge on respiratory conditions. The toolkits have already been circulated to our sites electronically; however, if you have not received them and wish to, please contact your visiting pharmacist or our customer services team on 0345 222 3550.

Three other Ashtons seminars have been added to our impressive and growing list of titles:

  • Sleep disorders
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Smoking cessation in mental health

If you would like a full list of our current seminar titles or would like to book any of these training courses then please contact your visiting pharmacist. If you have any suggestions for topics for future training seminars or there are areas in which you require more focus, please discuss these with your visiting pharmacist and we will be happy to explore ideas for future seminars.
