MHRA Guidance on Point of Care Diagnostic Testing

In Clinical Guidelines, MRHA News and Safety Alerts

This guidance is concerned with the management of diagnostic test kits and associated equipment such as pregnancy tests, blood alcohol tests, blood sugar measurement and other tests carried out on the ward  by clinical staff or by patients.

It provides recommendations on procurement decisions, best practice in using diagnostic products, safety, and risk management.

Although these products do not necessarily come into contact with patients, they can put patients at risk if they are not used correctly. For instance, an incorrect test result could result in inappropriate treatment being given to the patient.
