NICE – Using antipsychotics in pregnancy

 In Clinical Guidelines, NICE guidelines

A recent study in Canada looked at the effects of antipsychotic drugs on the mother and child during pregnancy. This found taking antipsychotics in pregnancy had minimal impact on important maternal and short-term perinatal outcomes, though the rate of adverse outcomes was high enough to warrant careful assessment.

NICE guidance recommends careful consideration when choosing an antipsychotic for a pregnant woman, taking into account the limited data on the safety of these drugs on pregnant women and the postnatal period.
