 In Clinical Guidelines, NICE guidelines

An updated clinical guideline has been produced by NICE in January 2011 dealing with treatment in primary care through to specialist mental health inpatient services.

The use of SSRIs is the first choice when considering drug treatment, and there are recommendations for various psychological therapies.

A stepped-care model is proposed which offers treatment options depending on the patient response.
