Training for your healthcare team

Training to enhance your team’s skills and support compliance goals

Our training courses are tightly focused to be relevant to the needs of doctors, nurses and healthcare assistants working for our healthcare partners.

They support compliance goals and help enhance skills and continuous development.

More than 14,500 healthcare professionals have so far participated in our e-learning programme.

Training for your healthcare team

Training for clinical staff

We currently offer 17 flexible clinical training seminars and five e-learning modules for nurses and doctors.

They are designed to fit into staff rotas to ensure maximum attendance and can be completed at a time, location and pace to suit your staff.

Participants can log on at any time of the day, seven days a week, with participation monitored by hospital managers to provide evidence of learning and competence.

Training seminars

Delivered by an Ashtons pharmacist with clear goals for each session including self-assessment to confirm understanding and certification as evidence for CPD.

Training for clinical staff

Training for care staff

Since the 2013 Cavendish Review there has been a drive to improve training of health and social care workers.

The CQC expects such staff to qualify for a ‘Certificate of Fundamental Care’ before they can look after patients without supervision.

As part of our commitment to our healthcare partners, we have designed training seminars specifically for healthcare assistants working independent hospitals and hospices.

Our seminars include:

  • Introduction to medication
  • Medicines administration
  • Secondary Signatory for the Management of CDs and DLMs

Training for all staff

We also offer courses to ensure all staff comply with legal requirements to work in any healthcare setting. These courses are chargeable.

Mandatory and statutory training

These courses are a requirement for all staff within the healthcare environment and provide up-to-date knowledge and skills.

First aid and life support training

Our first aid courses are designed to help partners comply with the 1981 Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations, and provide confidence that staff are trained to respond effectively in an emergency.

Clinical guidance and competency assessment

To complement our training courses and improve clinical knowledge, we also offer a range of printed clinical guides covering a range of healthcare topics, including diabetes, emergency drugs, self-administration and smoking cessation.

The CQC requires staff handling medicines to have “the competency and skills needed”. To help you meet this requirement and also provide evidence, we have also produced a nurse competency assessment tool which uses verbal questioning and observation of practical skills. The assessor will be given guidance on the required competencies. We also have a competency assessment tool for Healthcare Assistants.
